How we met

Eddie and I met one another in the fantastically, awkward year of 9th grade. And although we shared a mutual group of friends throughout high school, we were rarely in the same place at the same time. This trend continued on after graduation, bumping in to each other at random get-togethers or local hang-outs (I can speak for us both in saying that we always enjoyed the run-ins). The winds changed: I moved to Germany and Eddie moved in with a mutual friend of ours, Eric Romano. A year later the winds blew me back home and I found myself living at my mom's again (thanks Mom).

Eric and I were in pretty close contact during my adventures overseas. Once I was settled in back home he invited me over to watch a movie with the boys. It just so happened that Eric lived in the subdivision across the street (convenient? you bet!). The boys were all sprawled out in their designated spots; Bill in the Ikea chair, Eric in his recliner, and Eddie… well Eddie had the whole length of the couch, all to himself. Being a true gentleman, Eddie offered to let me share his designated movie spot.

The following day I, not-so-creepily, tracked down his contact information and shot him a text: “Thanks for letting me steal your couch space last night.” The rest is history. Mountains of texts lead to phone calls. Phone calls lead to hanging out. Hanging out lead to dating and the next thing you know, it's three years later and he's got the idea that I love him and want to marry him. He's a very clever man.

THE PROPOSAL

When Kaley and I first started talking about getting married, she asked me to do two things: ask her mom for permission (which I was going to do anyway) and make the proposal a surprise. I continued to give her a hard time about these two things, and it drove her crazy. We enjoy camping when we can, especially when the weather gets cooler. We planned to squeeze in a weekend trip before it got too hectic with the holiday festivities. The camping trip presented itself as the perfect opportunity to pop the question, due to the fact I already had the ring and had talked to her mom.

I had to do a bit of sneaking to get the ring packed up safe and sound. Luckily, Kaley didn’t notice. After arriving at Colt Creek State Park, we had to take a short hike to our campsite. Kaley and I set up camp and went about the afternoon carrying on as normal. She didn’t suspect a thing. I snuck the ring into my jacket pocket at some point in the night waiting for the opportunity to pop the question. We started to get tired as the night went on and I knew I wouldn’t be able to contain myself till the morning. I began to stoke the fire because I realized Kaley wouldn’t be able to see the ring in the dark. I asked Kaley, once again, what I needed to do before I proposed to her. She replied with a heavy sigh of frustration and looked down at the fire. I said, “I have to ask your mom, right? And I’d have to buy a ring, right?” as I reached into my pocket. Kaley looked up, as I was reaching and taking a step forward, with a look of shock and surprise. I got down on one knee and Kaley started crying and laughing and, obviously, said yes.

THE CEREMONY

Wanting to be married on the same day that we got engaged, the exchanging of vows will take place on Sunday, December 1st. Sunday doesn’t serve as the best day for celebrating, so the reception will take place on Saturday, December 7th. We are having a private ceremony with our parents and grandparents.

The festivities will be taking place outside, please dress accordingly.

THE REGISTRY

Rather than opting for the traditional Bed Bath & Beyond kind of registry, we ask for donations for our honeymoon. If you choose to bless us with a gift, and feel that money is too impersonal, we welcome a gift of your choosing.

For those of you that are more Internet inclined, feel free to use the the PayPal Send Money to a friend form. If the Internet isn’t for you, more traditional forms are welcome at the reception.

For our honeymoon, we're planning a camping road trip adventure out West. We hope to include the Grand Canyon, Sequoia National Park and Yosemite National Park, among others.
